The City of God

And the Goal of Creation

By T. Desmond Alexander

The question of "is there a single theme to the Bible?" is often brought up by theologians. The simple answer to this question is usually the name Jesus. Although this is surely true, there are other themes in Scripture that build on this and are essential in our understanding of Biblical theology. One of these themes is the kingdom of God and another that is closely related is the city of God. The city of God is what this book focuses on.

In this body of work, Dr. Desmond Alexander does a great job of articulating and giving an overview of the Bible’s teaching on the city of God. He begins in the garden of Eden and walks through the rest of Scripture delineating where it is found in each book. In doing this, reader is helped to grasp and understand this key Biblical theme and see that there is a coherent story line and a consistent message to the Word of God.

If you've ever wondered about the major themes in Scripture, this book is the place to start and I highly recommend it.
