In this first installment of our second church history series, we will begin by looking at Constantine, the fall of Rome, Augustine, and the rise of the Papacy.
Many Roman Catholics believe that the history of the church belongs to them. In this series we will see that this is incorrect. The Roman Catholic church that exists today (along with its false teaching and unbiblical practices) did not come about over night. It slowly developed as Constantine outlawed the persecution of the church, and elevated the role of certain bishops. Then about 150 years later as the Roman Empire came to an end in the west, there was a huge power vacuum left as there was no longer an emperor to rule the known world. When this took place, the bishop of Rome took advantage of this.
