How To Study The Bible

As Christians, we love to read the Bible. Many of us begin in Genesis each year and read through to Revelation. However, in our reading, we do not always truly study the Bible the way we should. The primary reason for this is that we do not know how to do this. In this book by Dr. Richard Mayhue, he gives us a step by step plan to help us do this in a way that will give us a better understanding of who God is and thus, enhance our worship of Him.

He begins by reminding us that our motives for study need to be right. We are not simply studying to gain head knowledge but to grow closer to our Lord. He spends time listing various tools to assist us in our study as well as explaining how we can most effectively use these tools. He warns of the dangers of taking a text out of context as well as adding our own presuppositions to a biblical text. Dr. Mayhue highlights the dangers of twisting Scripture or proof texting in order to make the Bible say something it may not actually say.
