EVANGELISM

by J. Mack Stiles

This book is one of the best books on evangelism that I have ever reviewed. The reason for this is that it does not simply talk about evangelism as something we go out and do, but as a way of life.

This book focuses on the importance of cultivating a culture of evangelism within the local church. This differs drastically from the idea of evangelism that was promoted during the early part of the century.

Evangelism was thought of as something Billy Graham did in Yankee Stadium or something the traveling evangelist did during the big tent revivals. When it comes to the local church, they would do this through outreach programs. I am not suggesting that outreach programs do not have their place, but when it comes to evangelism, they tend to make the participants think the involvement in the program equals evangelism. A better way to think about the ministry of evangelize is to think about it in more of a lifestyle than a program, to develop a culture of evangelism within the local church. In this book we are given a clear roadmap of how this takes place. Great examples and principles for evangelism are given throughout the book.

If you have ever desired to engage in evangelism but did not understand what evangelism really looks like, this book will help you in numerous ways.
